Echo — voice dictation directly on your Mac

Built for people who spend a lot of time with text, code, and AI agents. If you keep switching tabs, catching yourself procrastinating, or losing the thought while typing, Echo removes extra steps and helps you stay focused.

Press Command-D to start and stop dictation. Echo copies the finished text to your clipboard, ready to paste with Command-V into the app where you are working.

Echo runs on macOS 14 or later, with no account or sign-up. Your API key stays in macOS Keychain, and cloud transcription requests go directly to your chosen provider, OpenAI or Grok.

Why Echo is API-first today

Echo sends audio directly from your Mac to the OpenAI or Grok API you choose. It does not run a local speech model in this release. You need an internet connection and your own provider API key; Echo keeps that key in macOS Keychain and does not proxy the request through its own server.

Intel and Apple Silicon are supported

Echo supports Intel and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Its current API workflow does not require installing a local speech model.

API mode uses your chosen provider

Choose OpenAI or Grok, add your own API key, and Echo sends the audio directly to that provider for transcription. The provider bills API usage separately from the app purchase.

Offline transcription is planned

Echo requires an internet connection for transcription. Local WhisperKit support is planned, but it is not available in the current App Store release.

One-time purchase

Buy Echo once in the App Store. Provider API usage is billed separately.
